The San Diego Crime Commission — About Us
Since its inception in 1981, the San Diego Crime Commission has built public awareness about the impact of crime on community life. It has served as a vehicle for citizen involvement in the fight against crime on its many fronts.
Working cooperatively with citizens and public agencies, the Commission seeks to find solutions to problems within the criminal justice system. It seeks to develop educational programs and volunteer efforts by citizens of the community.
The Commission is focusing on a wide range of issues including border crimes, street gangs, drug abuse by youths, investment fraud, courts and jails, car theft and educating the business community and senior citizens in crime detection and prevention.
Our prime commitment is to education: to educate our youth to avoid the deadly trap of drugs; to educate our senior citizens to the many efforts to defraud them in one way or another; to educate the general public about the nature of crime in today';s society and what we can do about it. Law enforcement in our communities will be no better than the full cooperation of all elements of citizens, businesses, media and schools make it.
We serve as a liaison and catalyst in the law enforcement community, helping to bring together the various elements and calling attention to problems and opportunities not otherwise addressed.
